I first experienced Pukulan Cimande Pusaka in 1998 when I hosted Pendekar Sanders first European Seminar. I was totally blown away by the system and the manner of the teacher. However, since I was the first doing Pukulan Cimande Pusaka in Europe, there was no one else around in Europe for me to see and be guided by. At the time I didn't realize how big a disadvantage this was to me. Now, as a teacher of the art, I always encourage new students to come along and see the more advanced silat students' move.
So in 2004 when I found out that Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs was releasing his own training DVDs I immediately took it upon myself to get them. Each student, who in turn becomes a teacher, becomes a link to the warrior ancestors of the past, a guardian of the knowledge and finally a giver of the knowledge to the next generation. Each person, in the short time that we are here, is influenced by the art, and the art by him. Each teacher brings his own personality, skill and talent to Pukulan Cimande Pusaka and through the unique blending of soul and art become one. This was very much the evidence when I saw the first of these DVDs. Guru Besar Jerry's movements were so much Pukulan Cimande Pusaka as seen by our same Teacher Pendekar Sanders. Guru Besar Jerry teaches in a very down to earth way, no bull here or mad claims. You can see he is passionate about the art and can make it happen in real time. He comes across as a very humble man with a great depth of knowledge and skills and I found these DVDs a great help in my development of Pukulan Cimande Pusaka in not only combat but also in teaching.
I highly recommend anyone out there who wishes to get a good insight in this fantastic fighting system to get in touch with Guru Besar Jerry and train with him and purchase his DVD series. There you will see Pukulan Cimande Pusaka being taught by one of its top exponents.

Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs has been and continues to be an inspiration to me since the first day I met him. I have had the privilege of knowing and training with him for almost eight years now, and I have to say, that he embodies the true spirit of a Master Teacher. His skill is obvious to anyone who has the chance to see it, however I believe its what's beneath the surface that always seems to amaze me the most. He has this amazing gift yet he is humble. He can turn on this explosive, destructive force (Pukulan Cimande Pusaka), yet he is one of the most approachable people I've ever met.
Guru Besar Jerry Jacobs has contributed so much to this art and to his students. He never hesitates to offer, what I would consider above and beyond, to anyone who requires his help. It is a true blessing to our art to have such a talented and honorable man representing it.

G.B. Jacobs,
I am writing you to inform you that I recently had the pleasure of a visit from your student Guru Penglima Derek Owings at my martial arts studio along with one of his students. I had spoken to him earlier that week on the phone and had arranged a time for him to come by. He was good enough to demonstrate the skills and movements of the art given to him by his teacher and his intense practice. It was frankly astonishing. You are to be complimented on your excellent work in producing a student of such skill, decorum, and courtesy. I have conveyed to him, as I convey to you, my newfound esteem for your heirloom animal cimande silat, as I had no idea such a wonder existed. Please know that your student is always welcome in my school, to train, share, observe, or simply relax, as are his students, and you as his teacher. Such fervour and dedication to one's art as he displays is truly humbling.

My son was studying martial arts in an after school program for a couple years before he became bored with it. In our search for a new program that allowed him to excel at his own pace, my husband and I found King Tiger and the Junior Tigers Program. My son was extremely excited about the fluid movements of Pukulan Cimande Pusaka Pencak Silat which were so different from what he had learned before. With his excitement and achievements in the program, my husband and I now also attend King Tiger classes. My son, Nick, will soon be 13 and start in the adult class. I look forward to learning with him by my side.

Guru Besar Jacobs seems to have taken the wealth of Pendekar Sanders' material and put a structure to it. If you can't tell by now, the way I learn depends heavily on some kind of structured progression. Not everybody is like that, and many good Silat teachers do not teach like that, but that's more the way I learn, personally. The movements are clear, and Guru Besar Jacobs does a great job of explaining. You really feel like you're in the classroom with him, and this is a hard trick to pull off. I will certainly buy more of these, and I would recommend them to any beginner. I got the DVD, which I play on my computer. I've actually found this to be easier to work with than video cassette and I think any future purchases of any martial arts instructional stuff will be DVD. It's just easier for me to jump around, replay, etc.
There's not a lot of Silat around here, but I wanted to tell you how impressed I am with the DVD. It is full of content. Everything is clearly explained. It is very easy to learn from. I will definitely buy more of your DVDs. You are an excellent teacher, the DVDs are more than worth the money (I can't say that about all silat videos I've purchased), and I'm glad that somebody took the task of systemizing the great wealth of excellent silat in Cimande Pusaka and organizing the material into a logical progression.

Guru Besar, I wanted to thank you again for letting me train while I was in town. I got a lot out of it and it really showed me the areas I needed to work on. Both of your Guru Baharus' were very impressive. I look forward to buying your tapes and getting back into more training. I also wanted you to know that you are a profound influence in my life and as I go on my adventure in the Army I will take what you taught with me. Selamat.
